About Anne Clemente Counselor in Seattle
Counselor in Seattle
You want a therapist who truly gets it and who won’t waste your time. You are looking for real transformation, not just a weekly chat.
My name is Anne Clemente and I’m a therapist (and neuroscience nerd!) who loves supporting people through difficult times and relationships and helping people experience their brain’s natural healing power through well-researched techniques like EMDR therapy and mindfulness. You can think of me as both an advocate for your well-being and a facilitator of your brain’s natural healing abilities. People appreciate my compassion and humor as well.
I became a therapist because I want us all to live in peace, personally and globally. I entered grad school almost 25 years ago never thinking I’d work one-on-one with clients. I wanted to be a force for change, to help right the wrongs of the world. Over time, I realized that I prefer people to projects on paper. And I’ve come to see how personal transformation is really the way we transform the world. In the words of Buddhist peace-maker and poet Thich Nhat Hanh, cultivating happiness in oneself is “the most basic kind of peace work.”
My Experience
Today, my 50+ years of life experience inform the way in which I perceive the world, our place in it, and, therefore, our work together. I’ve gone from Wall Street (as an English major in the early 90s looking to pay off college loans) to non-profits (dealing with those projects on paper), and from the United Nations in New York City to a humanitarian organization in East Timor. Before entering private practice in Seattle, I was a rape crisis hotline volunteer in Boston, a Victim Services social worker in a NYC hospital and worked as a domestic violence counselor in the South Bronx. I also had a long stretch as an ex-pat, as a caretaker of kids and parents and have practiced mindfulness for 20+ years.
My Education
I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Columbia University in NYC in 2002 and a post-graduate certificate from the International Trauma Studies Program at NYU in 2004 (and, I would add, I obtained my PhD at the School of Hard Knocks). I am licensed as an LSWAIC in Washington State (License #SC 61169562). As a LSWAIC in private practice, I work under the supervision of a WA state approved clinical supervisor. I am EMDR trained through the EMDR Institute, Inc. (founded by the originator and developer of EMDR, Dr. Francine Shapiro); I regularly attend EMDR conferences, consultation groups and advanced trainings, including training in the provision of EMDR Intensives.
My Specialties
I have specialized training and experience in working with multiple types of traumatic experiences (including a Narcissistic Abuse & Gaslighting Treatment Course). My specialties include anxiety, trauma, PTSD, complicated relationships, and divorce. I often incorporate EMDR and mindfulness techniques into sessions. In addition to regular weekly 50-minute therapy sessions, I offer EMDR Intensives for people who want to spend 1-3 consecutive days diving deep to accelerate their healing. I’m also experienced in supporting clients who are utilizing Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAT) and who want to work with EMDR as well as KAT.
Additionally, I have experience with giftedness and neurodiversity and the complexity of parenting “twice exceptional” children. You can read about my other areas of experience by clicking here.
Furthermore, I am diligent in working to ensure I can be of service in a culturally competent and respectful way to BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities.
I believe that finding the right therapist is important. You can begin with a free 15-minute phone call. I’ll let you know how or if I can help. If I’m not the right therapist for you, I’ll do what I can to make a referral.

I am licensed to see all residents of WA State. You do not have to be in Seattle to work with me. You just need to be physically present in Washinton at the time of each online session.

I love to stay current, so I’m always reading! But I’d say the foundational works of Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind & Body in the Healing of Trauma, Dr. Dan Siegel, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, Whole Brain Living, as well as Francine Shapiro’s works on EMDR, Getting Past Your Past, and Judith Herman’s seminal work on trauma, Trauma and Recovery, and follow-up, Truth and Repair, are most relevant to work with my clients.

I specialize in supporting clients in healing from what I call “complicated relationships,” as well as from disturbing or traumatic events, whether stemming directly from relationships (e.g. complicated or traumatic childhoods, DV/IPV, divorce, narcissistic abuse) or not (e.g. car accidents, medical trauma, assaults by strangers or witnessing tragedies). But I also see clients for issues such as generalized anxiety, depression and life transitions.
Research continues to show 1) the importance of relationship health to our overall health and that 2) we have an amazing ability to heal. I’m honored to be a support to clients as they build healthy support systems in their lives and I feel truly privileged to be trained in therapies such as EMDR which facilitate the mind’s natural ability to heal.
We all need someone sometimes, especially in difficult times.

My fee for a 50-minute session is $185. I am not contracted directly with insurance companies. Many people prefer the privacy of paying completely out of pocket; however, I can provide you with a Superbill which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement if you have Out-of-Network benefits covering therapy with an LSWAIC. Please note that Superbills must include a diagnosis code.
A good faith estimate of expected charges is available upon scheduling or upon your request.
