EMDR Therapy in Seattle

Anne Clemente EMDR Therapist Seattle, Counselor in Seattle Specializing in Anxiety, PTSD, and Relationship issues

You've been to talk therapy before and you learned a lot, so why do you feel like you've hit a wall in your growth? There are patterns, issues, and things from your past that just keep impacting your day-to-day life.

Enter EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a mind and body-based therapy approach that allows us to dive into what is really driving your stuck spots and resolve them. We won’t go digging through your past looking to process every negative thing that has ever happened to you. That isn't necessary. The beauty of EMDR is that it helps your brain go to exactly where it is stuck and process what needs to be processed, so you can make progress as quickly and efficiently as possible. You don’t even have to tell me what happened to you. And we don’t have to work with a memory; we can work with feelings or beliefs about yourself, either to strengthen the positive ones or to move past the ones holding you back.

Hi, I’m Anne, your EMDR Therapist in Seattle

Hi, I’m Anne, and I’m an EMDR-trained therapist. If disturbing events in your past are stealing the joy from your present – or if joy seems like too much to hope for and you’d just like to experience some peace – I am here to help.

Heal Without Rehashing Your Story (You don’t even have to tell me what happened to heal)

With EMDR, you don’t have to re-tell your story. But I am here to listen with compassion and without judgment if you do. Clients come to me with their hurts, big and small. You don’t have to have experienced a major trauma to benefit from EMDR. But as a former social worker in the Victim’s Services Dept of a New York City hospital emergency room, a former rape crisis hotline volunteer and a former domestic violence counselor, I won’t be shocked, frightened or appalled by what you tell me. And I understand rough childhoods and complex relationships.

People appreciate my knowledge base, compassion, and dedication to my clients. I will deeply listen to and honor your story and your process while also thinking critically through what you need to leave your past in your past and experience peace and joy in your life. I often combine EMDR work with mindfulness exercises so that you leave sessions with the tools to continue cultivating calm throughout your week.

Frequently Asked Questions About EMDR Therapy in Seattle

  • You can work with me from anywhere in Washington. You do not need to be in Seattle. I am licensed to see all residents of WA State. You just need to be physically present in Washington at the time of each online session. Click here to read about online therapy.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a well-researched, proven method for the treatment of trauma as well as other disturbing experiences. Something doesn’t have to be recognized by others as a trauma for it to have been stored in your brain in a way that negatively impacts your life. What matters is how it felt to you at the time. With EMDR, we help facilitate your brain’s natural ability to process any “stuck points” that are at the root of negative beliefs, anxiety, depression or PTSD symptoms. This allows your nervous system to learn from the past and move on rather than staying “on alert” and stuck in “fight, flight, freeze, appease” mode. If eye movement isn’t right for you, I will guide you to gently tap your legs, chest or shoulders to achieve the bilateral movement used for processing.

  • EMDR is a well-researched, proven psychotherapy method recognized as effective by the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association and the World Health Organization, among others. Clients like EMDR because of the speed of results and the ability to process difficult and traumatic events, even without re-telling them. People in the public eye (e.g. Sandra Bullock, Prince Harry) have spoken openly about their experiences with EMDR which has brought public attention to it in recent years, but EMDR was develeped in the late 1980s and has been used and researched for over 35 years.

  • EMDR can be used in a regular 50-minute therapy session. I also offer extended EMDR sessions, comprised of 2 back-to-back sessions and EMDR Intensves. Click here to learn more about EMDR Intensives.

  • EMDR is used online in the same way it is in person. You will be guided in bilateral movements either with your eyes or hands. With eye movements, you are guided in following a moving dot on your screen and for hand movements, you can tap on your chest, shoulders or thighs.
