PTSD Therapist Seattle
Your past is NOT in your past. Maybe you are easily startled and plagued by flashbacks or nightmares, obviously triggered by the trauma you survived. Or maybe you just suspect that the anxiety, sadness and overwhelm that disrupts your enjoyment of life are somehow linked to having had a “not great, but not that bad” childhood.
You either feel too much or nothing at all.
You are worried that your past is impacting your work and your relationships. Maybe you feel embarrassed when you jump out of your skin from a tap on your shoulder at the office. Or your difficulty sleeping disrupts your family life. Or you just feel numb and disconnected from life.
When Will The Pain End
"Shouldn’t you be over this by now!" That's what people around you seem to think, but HERE YOU ARE, still struggling. You don't have time for all of this. You know you need things to change, but you don’t want to dredge up your history just to be disappointed again.
Have You Experienced Trauma? Why Hasn’t Talk Therapy Helped?
You've tried talk therapy, but talking about it hasn't made things better and might have made things worse. And now you're questioning how much the stuff from your childhood is really impacting you. Or how much what happened to you as an adult really matters when you feel that you can’t do anything about it anyway. You might even wonder if what you consider disturbing is really trauma.
Maybe what happened wasn't your fault, but you still feel ashamed. Or maybe there is no shame, but you’re tired of feeling the pain of having been hurt. Maybe you’ve realized you don't really know how to live - how to be - after these experiences. You thought you had your “imposter syndrome” stuff under control, you thought you knew who you were - but your life has just crashed. Or feels stalled.
PTSD Therapy Backed by Research
Hi, I’m Anne, and I’m a trauma-trained therapist who uses EMDR Therapy and mindfulness practices in addition to traditional psychotherapy. If disturbing events in your past are stealing the joy from your present – and especially if joy seems like too much to hope for and you’d just like to experience some peace – I am here to help. Clients come to me feeling discouraged, hopeless or ashamed. Therapy provides a path through the pain. One of the tools in my toolkit is EMDR, an extensively researched, proven treatment for trauma and PTSD that utilizes your brain’s natural ability to heal. In fact, many of the symptoms you might be experiencing are simply your brain’s efforts to keep you safe from danger. But things like hypervigilance and avoidance usually aren’t helpful in daily life. EMDR can help your mind and body realize that it’s ok to move on from fight-flight-freeze-appease mode, so that you can respond to current events in your life from a place of calm. And mindfulness exercises can provide you with the tools to cultivate peace throughout your week.
I can handle whatever you’ve experienced
With experience as a rape crisis hotline volunteer, a social worker in the Victim Services Dept. of a New York City hospital emergency room and a domestic violence counselor in the South Bronx, I won’t be shocked, frightened, or appalled by what you tell me. And I understand rough childhoods and complex relationships.
One of the benefits of EMDR therapy and mindfulness exercises is that you don’t have to re-tell your story to heal. But I am here to listen with compassion and without judgment if you do.
People appreciate my knowledge base, compassion, and dedication to my clients. I will deeply listen and honor your story and your process while also thinking critically through what you need to get to the other side.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a well-researched, proven method for the treatment of trauma as well as other disturbing experiences. Something doesn’t have to be recognized by others as a trauma for it to have been stored in your brain in a way that negatively impacts your life. What matters is how it felt to you at the time. With EMDR, we help facilitate your brain’s natural ability to process any “stuck points” that are at the root of negative beliefs, anxiety, depression or PTSD symptoms. This allows your nervous system to learn from the past and move on rather than staying “on alert” and stuck in “fight, flight, freeze, appease” mode. If eye movement isn’t right for you, I will guide you to gently tap your legs, chest or shoulders to achieve the bilateral movement used for processing.
